The Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region is of considerable importance in the field of Intellectual Property. No less than 70% of all patent litigations in Europe are settled in Germany, mainly in Mannheim. The IZG merges science, legal procedure and enterprises in the field of Intellectual Property at the University of Mannheim. The activities of the centre are designed as an offer aiming at lawyers and patent lawyers, entrepreneurs, legal counsellors and scientists. The IZG is to be seen as a network in the field of Intellectual Property in the Metropolitan Region of Rhine-Neckar.
It is designed as a platform for the representatives of all occupational groups and interest groups who are interested in topics in the realm of Intellectual Property to collaborate, to exchange experiences, to analyse legal issues and to find solutions for current problems of the intangible property rights. Among these are in detail:
- Knowledge transfer between the economic sector, science and legal practice
- Conventions and lectures for scientists and professionals
- Basic and advanced training for lawyers and patent lawyers
- Exertion of influence on politics, legislation and administration
- Compilation of scientific studies
- Development of a practice-oriented curriculum
Due to the manifold economic and technology-related effects the IZG works interdisciplinarily. Therefore it collaborates with a number of natural scientists working in industry and research and cooperates with the highly renowned Center of European Economic Research (ZEW).
